Came across a great essay, Big Ideas for Better Schools: Ten Ways to Improve Education! I particularly liked the part about education being a responsibility of everyone - students, teachers, schools, and the community (parents, etc.). There has to be a synergy between all and each one needs to know how to contribute.
I had been searching for articles and essays like this that talk about bettering the education system. We are living in a world that is constantly changing. Our children need to be "educated" using innovative and engaging tools and resources. There has to be a mix of traditional teaching and novel ideas. We need to raise children that will become free thinkers, innovators, and social entrepreneurs.
We started, Flyers Club, with the thought of contributing to this changing academic landscape. Using model aviation as a resource, we want kids to learn skills that are essential for professional success and personal achievement. We want the kids to learn about teamwork, perseverance, importance of hard work, and about dealing with hardship and failure.
